    Psychotherapy:

Individuals experience challenges and setbacks in their lives, which sometimes may feel overwhelming. Seeking the assistance of a trained psychotherapist is a mature and healthy way of dealing with issues, which, if left unresolved, could lead to considerable distress. I view psychotherapy as a process where the client and the therapist work together to develop an understanding of the client’s different issues and develop skills that allow the client to heal and grow and obtain a deeper sense of meaning in life.

    Approaches to psychotherapy:

I practice evidence-based psychotherapies, which are guided by the most current research relevant to the practice of psychotherapy. In my approach of couples and marital therapy I use the most researched area of couple therapy called Gottman Method of Couples Therapy. I incorporate some approaches of Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy when needed. The model  I most commonly use is Cognitive – Behavioural Therapy, Brief Solution Focused Therapy,Mindfulness based therapy, Narrative Therapy when needed, I also integrate treatment components from different therapeutic modalities. I often use clinical hypnosis as a tool as my psychotherapeutic intervention as tool. I also use mindfulness based meditation techniques to obtain deeper sense of meaning and tranquility.

In conducting psychotherapy, I often employ tools such as homework and tasks that need to be done between the sessions.

I view social, economic, and political contexts are deeply important factors in understanding an individual’s issues. I do not always discuss these issues but do raise them when awareness seems likely to be helpful.
